About The Artist

Jill O’Reilly is a self-taught Mosaic Artist who explored many creative outlets before finding her true passion – Mosaics. For many years she has experimented with various materials, both natural and man made, creating mosaic artwork. Jill has designed mosaic floor inserts, tabletops, wall hangings and backsplashes for the home. The main focus of her recent work has been creating decorative glass mosaic window panels.

“Glass is complex yet versatile and lends itself well to the formation of mosaics. Each window panel consists of the combination of many varieties of glass (antique, cathedral, iridized, stippled) as well as scrap glass and glass jewels and nuggets. The pieces of glass are individually cut and combined to form a cohesive yet multifaceted piece. The use of grout between the individual glass fragments allows for greater detail by increasing dramatically the number of individual pieces that can be incorporated within the work.”

Inspiration for Jill’s creations comes from many sources. “Nature is a wonderful inspiration, whether it is a field of brightly colored flowers or an ominous iceberg lit by moonlight.” Through her mosaic work Jill has also on occasion, attempted to give a new interpretation to some classic works of art.

Creating mosaics is a labour of love and has resulted in an extremely satisfying creative channel for the artist.
